Jl Audio 12W7 subwoofer

The JL 12W7 12 inch subwoofer is a very great SQL sub that produces excellent sound quality while stillgetting very loud. It weighs in at just under 50lbs. The first thing you may notice about this sub is the huge rollover surround. Meaning that you dont see any screws when this sub is mounted in your enclosure. The surround actually covers the screws that hold it in place giving you a larger surround and more cone area and also looks verydiscrete when mounted to an enclosure. The W7 model gees in 4 different sizes. The 8inch, 10inch, 12inch, and 13.5inch models. The 12W7 is rated at 750watts rms and 1500watts peak power. It may not seem like alot of power but JL has always produced very high end power efficient products.You also can not simply base the power handling of a sub based on its power it can take in watts. Just because a sub can take lets say 2000 watts rms does not mean its going to be louder or sound better than a sub that takes 1000 wats rms. If you want the full specs check out their website at http://www.jlaudio.ge . Ihad one 12W7 sub in a sealed enclosure built to specs in a 2001 Dodge Neon, and this thing absolutely pounds. I can not turn up the volume more than 3/4 of the way or my ears will start to hurt. The bass is very deep, tight, and acurate. I recently switched to a slot ported box and itgets a little louder than the sealed while still maintining good SQ.I have heard many different systems that get loud but the bass is always distored or floppy sounding, and just does not sound right. The price is steep, but you get what you pay for. I regemend buying from a JL dealer as there is no warranty for these bought online. Jl does not sell their car audio online at all. You WILL NOT be disappoined with this subwoofer. I recgeend getting the JL 1000/1 amp to power this, or any amp that puts out 750watts rms NOT peak. Some alternatives to this sub would be less expensive and sound great and get loud are the IDMAX, TREO,Eclipse TI, or the RE XXX although the new xxx model is very expensive and hard to gee buy.
