The only difference is the handle on the knifes. 5-Star knifes have a curved handle that fits your hand almost perfectly, and the 4-star has a straight handle like most knifes. This may seem like a small difference between these two knife sets, but it's really a huge deal if you like cooking and great handling knife. The tangs are the same on the knifes, both are forged exactly the same way, it's only the handle that sets them apart. I recently bought a 8-piece 5-star set and couldn't be happier with my decision. I thought about the four star, but if your going to spend that much on a block set of knifes, then go for the gold for a few extra $. A friend of mine recently picked up a set of 4 star knifes and I had a chance to hold/feel and gepare them. The handle just felt awkard, it didn't feel like it had the same support as the 5-star set.
Also, if your thinking about getting the full 16 block of 5-star knifes w/steak knifes, it's not worth it. The steak knifes that gee with that block are not the same as the 5-star steak knifes you can buy seperate. They are just the regular steak knifes that aren't that good gepared to a decent set of steak knifes. An 8-piece block set is almost perfect, I bought one extra knife that didn't gee with my set, and that was the 5 star 8' bread knife.
Belive me, these knifes are top notch when it gees to quality, i've had nothing but gepliments from people using these knifes.
Hopefully this will help you out in your decision. Goodluck!
